Clos des Boutes
The Costières de Nîmes region is definitely a welcoming land for young talents. Consider Sylvain Boutée, the winemaker of Clos des Boutes, an estate located in Bellegarde, at the gates of the Camargue.
Son of wine merchants from the Maroilles region, in the Nord department, he traveled from Burgundy to Bordeaux during his studies, which he began at the Beaune wine high school. But it was in Costières de Nîmes that he settled in 2003.
“I was looking for a nice terroir, with a real identity and capable of producing quality wines, which have finesse, freshness and personality. And then I was lucky enough to find ten hectares of old vines, all in one plot,” he says.
Between Carignan, Syrah and Grenache, he created his own estate there by choosing organic and opening up to biodynamics. He plants hedges which promote biodiversity and ecological management of the vines.
The result, wines which “affirm their Rhone freshness and a very Languedocian breed”, according to the RVF, which sent him a favorite for its Chamboultou vintage.
