Le Petit Eugène

4 rue Sainte-Eugénie 30000 Nîmes

Yet another new address in the city center, nestled in the quiet rue Sainte-Eugénie, a stone’s throw from Place de l’Horloge. The principle: market cuisine and wines with a natural spirit.

The place
It opened four months ago. On sunny days (so most of the time), we eat on the terrace. Otherwise, the small interior room offers the decor of a warm bistro. In the kitchen, we meet François Blineau. And it is the female half of the team, Christêle Sans, who provides the service.

The cuisine
Here, we exclusively source fresh produce from Les Halles. The result is a changing and always seasonal menu, based on southern ingredients. This summer, we were treated to crispy southern vegetable tarts, gourmet salads and fresh fruit crumbles. For this end of autumn and this winter, make way for soups and dishes with sauces. Also note the oyster day on Saturday.

The wine
Christêle and François confess a “desire for sincere and honest wines”, as they say. One day, a wine merchant friend introduced them to natural wines. This can be seen on the menu, as well as their taste for local products, with two references in Costières de Nîmes, the Les Grimaudes vintage from Domaine Marc Kreydenweiss, a biodynamic red “which goes well with everything” according to François, and the Les Fagnes vintage from Clos des Boutes.
